Minimally Invasive Strabismus (Squint) Surgery

Squint surgery has changed significantly since we first started practising correcting deviations of the eyes. Mr. Jain has pioneered using small or minimally invasive strabismus surgery in the UK. This shrinks the incision to just 5 mm, which hides under the lower or upper lid and prevents any visible scars.

This has completely changed the outcomes of surgery with less redness, pain and discomfort postoperatively. Also, as the surgery is performed in a keyhole fashion, there is less trauma to the tissues and they heal faster.

He has published this technique both in journals as research papers (referenced) and as book chapters. He has lectured on his experience with this technique nationally and internationally to disseminate more information about the benefits of this approach to squint surgery.

Charity Work

Saurabh has a keen interest in Ophthalmology in the developing world, particularly in the variation in surgical outcomes in paediatric eye conditions.

He has carried out trips to India and China to facilitate teaching of local eye surgeons and to carry out surgery to enable spread of expertise. Since 2015, he has been closely involved with the charity Lifeline Express (http://www.lxenglish.com/) based in mainline China.

He has lectured at symposia on Paediatric Eye Disease at Beijing and carried out supervision and training of eye surgeons in remote parts of China. These include Dingxi in Gansu province in 2015 and Guigang in Guangxi in 2016. These visits were instrumental in forging links across centres and helping standardise the care provided.

He is due to visit Hong Kong and Shanghai this year as an invited speaker for at two international meetings in 2017.

Patient Testimonials

  • Mr Jain performed surgery to correct my son Edward's squint aged 2. We have been seeing him for follow up ever since. We were very happy with the results of the surgery. Mr Jain has a lovely manner. He is warm, approachable and always manages to put Edward at ease. He is also extremely patient answering my many questions! I would recommend him unequivocally.

  • Dr Jain has performed 2 cataract surgeries on me. At all times he has been totally professional, prepared to hear what I have to say. Very empathetic to my personal problems, gentle and kind, but always the epitome of professionalism. My ideal of what a surgeon should be. I have no problem in recommending him to friends. Indeed I have already done so

  • On behalf of Emmie I would like to thank you for all your help and prompt correspondence. We have been most grateful for the care we have received from Emmie's procedure from start to finish. Thank you and Mr Jain very much.

  • I cannot recommend Dr Jain highly enough. He first saw my son when he was just 18 months old, and after the initial diagnosis of farsightedness, has been holding our hands ever since. He is a natural with children and is both patient and understanding. Equally as important, he has always made himself available to us, the parents, for questions and queries. My son, now 5 1/2, sees his semi annual visits to Dr Jain as a marker of time and a rite of passage.
